HOT OR NOT 🔥❄️ (D.Reed)

What’s Hot🔥
QB
Phillip Rivers (San Diego @ Indianapolis)
Normally I’m not too high on Rivers due to his lack of consistency, but this week I love his matchup against a battered and bruised Colts defense. The Colts defense is allowing an average of 18.7 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, and I expect Rivers and his pass-happy offense to take full advantage!!!
Matt Ryan (Atlanta @ New Orleans)
Show of hands for who anyone who thought that Matt Ryan would be your number one player for points scored in the first two weeks. . .anyone?. .anyone?. .nope me either!!! This week, Ryan draws the matchup of a porous New Orleans defense!!! Use Ryan while you can because the Falcons schedule toughens up significantly in the weeks ahead. However, for now, it looks like “Matty-Ice” is in for another top 5 QB week!!!!
RB
Melvin Gordon (San Diego @ Indianapolis)
With Danny Woodhead now confirmed out for the year with a torn ACL, I expect an uptick in usage for Melvin Gordon in the SanDiego backfield. Although they signed Dexter McCluster, a player with a style similar to Woodhead, I still expect for Gordon to do well against a defense that has surrendered 5 TDs on the ground in its first two matchups! I don’t think Gordon will eclipse 100 yds rushing, but he’ll definitely get the looks near the goal line where he has been money in the bank!!!!
Matt Forte (NYG @ Kansas City)
Coming off a triple TD game against Buffalo, Forte is as hot as any RB in the league right now!! What makes Forte a top play week in and out is not only his ability to carry the ball but his ability as a pass catcher too!! It makes it even harder to sit him in PPR leagues. The Jets have made him a huge part of their offense in the first two games, and as long as Forte stays healthy, I don’t see that changing anytime soon!!! Even though Kansas City’s defense is far from a pushover, you can’t deny Forte’s usage and volume as he’s a threat to score through air or on land any given week!!!!
WR
Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona @ Buffalo)
The age-less wonder, who seems as young and fresh as ever, has already posted 3 scores this year!! He’s still Carson Palmer’s go-to guy in a very talented receiving corp! Much doesn’t seem to get past Fitzgerald as he always makes the best of his targets year in and year out!!! I see a very solid matchup for Fitz this week as he’s up against a suspect Bills secondary that was ripped to shreds against Ryan Fitzpatrick and company last week!!!
Travis Benjamin (San Diego @ Indianapolis)
Since the loss of Kenan Allen, Benjamin has become the top target in San Diego’s pass attack. Benjamin posted 6 catches for 115 yards and 2 scores against Jacksonville, and with Rivers looking Benjamin’s way early and often, I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t post similar numbers against the Colts’ generous secondary!!! I have Travis Benjamin as a high-end WR2 with WR1 potential this week!!!
TE
Dennis Pitta (Baltimore @ Jacksonville)
Dennis Pitta flew under the radar last week with a whopping 9 catches for 102 yards!!! He lead all Ravens pass catchers in targets in week 2 with 12 and is quickly becoming Flacco’s favorite target!! Pitta gets the matchup against a Jacksonville defense that has given up some big games to TEs in the past. Given his usage as of late, I can easily see Pitta being a top plug and play option this week considering he went undrafted in most leagues!!!
D/ST
Arizona (@ Buffalo)
The firing of offensive coordinator Greg Roman gives an indication on how Buffalo’s offense is doing through the first few weeks. It seems like the Bills are in a tough spot this week as they play host to an extremely talented Arizona defense! With things in disarray in Buffalo, now seems like a great time to plug in Arizona’s D/ST with confidence!!!
What’s Not❄
QB
Tyrod Taylor (Arizona @ Buffalo)
(Sighs) It really hurts me to do this to such a quarterback with tremendous potential, but with the offense looking so inconsistent from week to week and a tough matchup against Arizona, it looks like Tyrod Taylor deserves a spot on this list this time around. Hopefully, you have a better option at QB because this doesn’t seem like it’ll be Taylor’s week. (Insert Jordan crying face here)
RB
Devonta Freeman (Atlanta @ New Orleans)
Even though I love the matchup this week against the Saints, it seems like the Atlanta backfield has become a bit messy with the emergence of Tevin Coleman, who scored Atlanta’s only TD on the ground last week. Coleman seems to be used in the passing game while Freeman being used on early down situations. Either way, it seems like there is no clear cut number 1 guy in this backfield as long as Coleman’s solid play continues. So be mindful of any use of a running back in this cloudy backfield!!! I also love Coleman a lot more in PPR format!!
WR
Sammy Watkins (Arizona @ Buffalo)
A WR with a foot injury. . . yep. . .proceed with caution!!! It seems to me that Sammy Watkins has been used more of a decoy than anything else! Personally, I would leave this super talented WR on your bench until he shows signs of being near full strength!! I know it hurts to see a big name like Watkins on the bench but sometimes it’s better to be safe than sorry. However, being matched up against Patrick Peterson and a talented Arizona secondary should make benching him a little easier!!!
TE
Gary Barnidge (Clevland @ Miami)
2015 Breakout TE Gary Barnidge just lost his QB, Josh McC own, who made said breakout year possible. Barnidge was McCown’s favorite weapon of choice when he was the signal caller for the Browns last season. Since McCowns injury is more serious than expected, I expect for “Barney” to be put on the shelf until further notice!!! We’ll have to wait and see if Kessler or whoever is at QB can rekindle that same magic that McCown and Barnidge once shared!
D/ST
Philadelphia (vs Pittsburgh)
Philly has surprisingly been a top fantasy defense throughout these first two games (although it can be a little misleading when playing Cleveland and Chicago), but coming off a short week and going up against one of the league’s top offensive units in the Pittsburgh Steelers, I expect that trend to change!!! The Steelers are built to light up the scoreboard quick, fast and in a hurry, and I see tough sledding for Fletcher Cox and company.
